Here in Abingdon, and Richardson's Cemeteries lie buried, Ma ry, wife of Eli McEntire, her mother Phebe, descendents of Wm. Wardrop through James Wardrop, representative. Here of the Virginia Ohio Company (which finally yielded to the Loyal CO.) Holding the earliest (1748) patent to o ver two million acres of land drained by tributaries of the Ohio including the Holston River. According to K. P. Baily "The Virginia Ohio Company&q uot; published 1939; It "was organized by No Chance Groups of The Cream of Virginia Aristocracy- Including George Washington, Lawrence and Augustine, Richard, Phillip, and Thomas, Lee, John Tayloe, Gawin Corbin, George Fair fax, Robert Dinwiddle, James Wardrop, ET.AL. Twenty-Five in the group of whom 20 were of the House of Burgesses, two presidents, all wealthy and socially prominent... It would have been difficult to assemble a more formidable roster."
